Binder Fit Guide

How to measure, choose the right size, and wear binders safely.

Measuring for a binder

Getting the right fit starts with accurate measurements. Use a soft measuring tape and measure over your skin (or a thin, non-padded bra).

  • Chest/underbust: Measure around your ribcage, directly under your chest.
  • Overbust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
  • Shoulders: Measure from the edge of one shoulder across your back to the other.

Compare your measurements to the brand’s size chart. Sizes vary by brand, so always check the chart for the specific binder you’re buying.

Choosing the right size

Never size down to get a flatter look. A binder that’s too small can cause pain, restrict breathing, and damage skin or ribs. If you’re between sizes, size up.

Consider your build and comfort. Some people prefer full-length binders for more coverage; others like half binders for warmer weather or easier movement.

Wearing safely

  • Don’t wear a binder for more than 8 hours at a time.
  • Take breaks on days when you can.
  • Never sleep in your binder.
  • Don’t exercise in a binder that’s too tight—consider a size up or a sports-specific option.
  • Listen to your body. Pain, numbness, or trouble breathing means the binder is too small or worn too long.

Care and washing

Hand wash in cool water with mild soap, or machine wash on gentle in a mesh bag. Air dry—avoid high heat, which can damage the fabric and elastic.

This guide is for general information. Always follow the instructions that come with your specific binder.
